I have been a female entrepreneur since I was 1o years old!
THE BEGINNING
It all started in my grandmother’s garden. I would pick her vegetables and sell them on the side of our street. I got an occasional buyer, but the lesson was more valuable than the change I would get. To take time out to pick the right vegetables, cart them to the front and place them nicely on the table was a big job. Then I had to decide the price to charge, make the sign and wait. The waiting was tough!
As I got older, I would always think about new ways to make money. Was this because I didn’t grow up with much of it? By the time I was in high school I was climbing trees to pull off mistletoe to sell door-to-door during the holidays. No waiting involved here!
At 14, I got my first job as a hot dog girl at Arco Arena. It was the first arena the Sacramento Kings played at. After that I was a lifeguard, swim instructor, hostess, busser and server. I started to figure out that I wasn’t a very good employee. LOL!
When I started college I figured out that there was a way to make money off of concerts without going inside. Saving money while making money. Brilliant! Even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the Grateful Dead, I knew that there were thousands of people hanging around outside the concert looking for cool stuff to buy. I decided to buy a bunch of bandanas and create halter tops to sell. I would mix and match colors and sew them together on my grandmother’s sewing machine. That was my first experience actually making a profit off of something that had a cost.
PURPOSE
There has been so much that has happened since then! Now I will be on the first episode of Billion Dollar Buyer January 3rd, 2018 and on the second season of Fit to Fat to Fit. After 18 years of growing a boxing gym chain, franchising that company and creating a female empowerment brand called Too Pretty, I have now found my purpose. It is to take all of my experience and share it! It is to use that experience and be a sounding board for all girls and women who were ever put into a gender box! Too Pretty is my extension of that. I will continue to pass along my knowledge in the boxing, fitness and business arenas as well as support my female community as best I can.
